Le baiser
Earthenware and ''terre de Lorraine'' biscuit Dimensions : H. 26 (cm.)
Niderviller, circa 1780

Rare model of Le Baiser , after Jean-Antoine Houdon, in Lorraine earthenware, by the Niderviller factory. It stands on a columnar pedestal. Astonishing faux marble and gilding decoration.

Niderviller and ''cookies'' It was by acquiring the molds of the talented Cyfflé, that this factory in eastern France oriented its production towards monochrome prints, made from a white paste of great finesse, and very close to the procelaines. These pieces, known as "Terre de Lorraine", offer a panorama of late 18th-century sculpture: Salon models and groups, statuettes, but also popular or gallant genre scenes, busts, medals and portraits. The whiteness of the material gives them the appearance of marble, which makes them a great success.
