A plaster bust with a terracotta patina, resting on a pedestal, of the Princess of Lamballe, after the original sculpted by Augustin Pajou. The Princess of Lamballe (1749-1792) married Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Prince of Lamballe, son of the Duke of Penthièvre (himself the son of the Count of Toulouse, legitimized son of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan). Very close to the Dauphine Marie Antoinette, she was beheaded on September 3, 1792, and her head paraded on a pike.
