Table mirror
Cut crystal and gilt bronze
Dimensions: H. 37; W. 19 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1820
Rare table mirror or vanity mirror with removable glass. It rests on three zoomorphic feet. Circular base in finely knurled bronze. Finely chiseled garland of flowers on the top. Column shaft in cut crystal with cross-hatched flowerbeds, topped with an antique-style bust of a woman. Circular mirror entirely encircled by knurled bronze.
This type of production is similar to many crystal objects made in the factories of Vonêche, Baccarat, Le Creusot, and Montcenis and sold in Parisian boutiques between 1810 and 1830. This fashion reached its peak in 1819 with the presentation by Veuve Desarnaud at the Exhibition of French Industrial Products of an incredible dressing table and chair, now preserved at the Louvre Museum.
Condition report: original gilding with minor wear, very beautiful burnishing, excellent condition.
