"18th Century Indian Bidri Hookah Base Huqqa "
This rare and exquisite Bidrim hookah base is crafted with a unique high-relief silver inlay, rather than the usual flat style. The Bidri Huqqa base features a pattern of alternating panels depicting leafy and flowering plants, alternating with diminishing garlands surrounding a single flower. The upper section repeats the same motifs. Bidri craftsmanship originated in the Deccan city of Bidar, the capital of the Muslim Bahmanid kings in the 16th century. Manufacture spread first to Hyderabad, which remained the principal center, and later to other cities in Mughal India.
The condition is very good for age, but some sections of the lines delineating the decorative panels are missing, as can be seen in the photographs.
