Ancient Religious Embroidery Virgin Immaculate Conception
The moon symbolized, in the Jewish religion, the people of God.
In Christian religion, the moon under the Virgin's feet took on the meaning of purity: the Virgin Mary is here depicted as the Immaculate Conception.
This beautiful representation of the Immaculate, with painted hands and face and the remaining parts embroidered with silk thread directly on paper, is oval in shape within a rectangular walnut-colored wooden frame.
The paper, being fragile by nature, has some small tears along the edges, which have consequently detached the anchoring of the embroidery threads (see the last two photos); but overall, the artwork is in good condition.
