The Wedding At Cana - Oil On Copper - Early 17th Century
A Flemish work from the workshop of Frans Francken, active in Antwerp until 1642. We will appreciate the lively polychromy, the quality of the details, especially the draperies and the always expressive faces of this Flemish school.
An unusual iconography that this work illustrates a happy passage from the Gospel according to Saint John, the one where Jesus, Mary and the disciples are invited to a wedding banquet at Cana. While the wine is lacking, Jesus has jars filled with water and transforms it into very good wine and in abundance.
Almost a pre-Eucharistic symbol !
Used condition - some losses
Dimensions of 21.5 cm by 16.5.
