Portrait Of A Young Girl, Attributed To Marianne Loir
Portrait of a Young Girl, attributed to Marianne Loir (December 10, 1705 – May 11, 1783)
Oil on canvas
H. 73 cm x W. 59 cm
French School of the 18th century. Carved wooden frame,
18th century, gilded with gold. Marianne Loir works in a manner very close to that of Jean-Marc Nattier, being the height of the Louis XV style. However, her touch is freer and the style less rococo. She is known for the delicacy of her portraits of the French nobility. A truth and sincerity emanate from her portraits whose subjects do not appear stiff or in unreal postures. Sometimes Marianne Loir's style is compared to that of Pierre Gobert, several decades her senior, of whom some reminiscences can be found.
