AGOSTINI Max (1914-1997)

"The old port of Bastia, Corsica"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,

Beautiful bright and high-contrast work by the painter of Corsican origin Max Agostini which represents a view of the old port of Bastia in Corsica. We can notably distinguish the Saint-Jean church.
The artist uses a palette of bright and vivid colors which allows to bring his work to life and to wonderfully represent the light of a summer day.
Attached to his Corsican roots, the painter regularly stays on the island of beauty to paint mountain landscape views and its cities such as Ajaccio, Bastia ...

Leader of the contemporary impressionists, the painter MAX-AGOSTINI was born in Paris in 1914, of Corsican origin through his grandparents. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and discovered a real talent for Impressionism.
Incorporated into the French Army for five years at the beginning of the Second World War, MAX-AGOSTINI was taken prisoner for three years.
During the post-war period, he was noted for his quality as an excellent portraitist and landscaper in Châteauroux, where he worked for several years. Later, he settled in Gargilesse in Berry and in Provence.
In January 1997, he was still painting his most beautiful canvases a few days before his hospitalization.
He is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest colorists of his time.

Dimensions: 55 x 46 cm without frame and 61 x 52 cm with its American box frame in white wood.
