Nuna Dance Mask From Burkina Faso
Very large and spectacular NUNA dance mask from Burkina Faso Polychrome semi-hard wood representing a roan antelope (largest antelope) height 1.15 meters for a maximum width of 24cm depth 32cm. This large sculpture represents in a very naturalistic way a roan antelope's head, whose morphology is underlined by the judicious use of colors: long black curved horns and large black triangles or diamonds on a white background for the face of the antelope During rituals this type of mask dances to the sound of whistles and drums, whirls, jumps, in order to imitate the movements of the animal it represents. The large mask evolves and is surrounded by all the secondary masks which twirl around it to protect it. The mask that I am presenting to you for sale was published in the work of Mr Gabriel MASSA "Animal masks of West Africa" it is reproduced full page 48 under number 17 free shipping worldwide
