Popular Art Missal Box – 18th / 19th century

Charming missal box in beech wood carved from the mass (Monoxyle) in the shape of a book, with a removable sliding lid held by a string (replaced).

Originally from the Massif Central (Auvergne).

While its knife-engraved decoration presents traditional motifs: cross, heart, and wolf tooth arranged at the edge of the decorative elements.
Then above the heart three spears which can represent the Trinity.

As well as the initials of the owner, all subtly enhanced with red in places.

Dimensions:
Height: 10.9 cm
Width: 6.5 cm
Thickness: 2cm
Condition: Small loss on the edge of the slide, otherwise good general condition.

A beautiful example of an object belonging to popular folklore, carefully sculpted by its owner in a naive and authentic style, typical of works classified in the Popular Art style.

An unusual piece ideal for collector enthusiasts.
