Antoine Nelson , known as Antoine Joseph Van Den Kerckhove , is a famous Belgian sculptor , born in Brussels in 1849 .
Son of Augustin Van den Kerkhove known as Saïbas , A. Nelson was born into a family of Antwerp sculptors who came to settle in Brussels .
He trained in his father's studio and at the Brussels Academy .
After a short period in London , he settled in Paris from 1890 to 1910 .
His numerous female busts in the Art Nouveau style date from this period .
A. Nelson's works are characterized by organic and fluid forms ; the inventiveness , the colors of the patinas and the ornamentation are often inspired by fauna and flora .
