Large patinated bronze sculpture representing "The Borghese Gladiator." This Hellenistic sculpture (c. 100 BC), discovered in Antium, belonged to the Camillo Borghese collection in the 18th century until its sale to the French state in 1807. It is now housed in Room 406 of the Louvre Museum. A masterpiece of classical Greek sculpture, it has inspired numerous artists. Our 19th-century example bears the inscription "Musée du Louvre" on the back of the rectangular base supporting the sculpture. It has a lovely antique patina. Height: 50 cm. Base: 35.5 x 20 cm. Wingspan: approximately 50 cm.
