Important bronze group with brown patina , depicting a mother giving a reading lesson to her daughter "Maternal Education" , by the sculptor Eugene Delaplanche (1836-1891) , edited by the founder "Ferdinand Barbedienne" .
Sculpture signed "Delaplanche" in hollow , followed by the date "1873" .
Foundry mark "F.BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR.PARIS" and circular stamp "Mechanical Reduction A. Collas" .
Old edition sculpture , period second half of the 19th century .
Perfect state of conservation and patina .

Eugene Delaplanche (1836-1891) 

Eugene Delaplanche was a famous French sculptor , born on 28 February 1836 , in Belleville (Seine) .

He entered the Paris School of Fine Arts in 1852 , where he was a pupil of Francisque - Joseph Duret . 
He won the First Prix de Rome for Sculpture for his plaster sculpture "Ulysses bending the bow that the suitors could not bend" and became a resident at the Villa Medicis in Rome , from 1864 to 1867.
Along with Alexandre Falguiere and Antonin Mercie , he was a member of the Florentine Group , showing an interest in Florentine grace .

Eugene Delaplanche , died in Paris on 10 January 1891 , and is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery .
