Late 18th century, early 19th century India for Persia Very beautiful Indian fabric painted with a reed pen, printed on a block, then brushed at the end of the 18th century or at the beginning of the 19th century in India. Quilted in the 19th century with a later print, this has nevertheless allowed this beautiful piece to reach us. Technically very accomplished and probably made in one of the best Indian workshops (Coromandel coast?), the design available for this canvas with borders loaded with Indian flowers, central medallions and spandrels, is typical of its period and its destination: the Persian market. A few rare tiny weaknesses of the canvas and a few small repairs, note a few halos including one a little visible in the center. Stable structural condition. Very rare these days!. Dimensions: 116 cm X 112 cm. Iconography: to be compared with the model presented on page 108 of "Féerie Indienne", catalogue of the joint exhibition at the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes de Lorient and the MISE in Mulhouse in 2009.
