Beautiful and rare pewter CIBORY with a cap-shaped reserve, a median knotted leg and a nippled pedestal and a bayonet-closing lid topped with a cross. It is decorated in slight relief with two friezes of four fleurons and radiating motifs.
Height: 20.4 cm. L
YON (?), first half of the 18th century

In very good condition, the two screws connecting the three elements are perfectly functional. The interior of the lid and the reserve shows traces of an old original gilding.
The relief decoration is close to that of certain models of Lyonnais bowls. It is also likely that the two parts of this ciborium were obtained from a bowl lid mold as evidenced by the internal welds connecting the nipples to their plinths.
This is the first observation of a ciborium with relief decoration for this period.
