Joseph Ascoli (1847-1929), The Young Fisherman, Large Bronze 57 Cm With Brown Patina
Artist: Joseph Ascoli (1847-1929)
Large bronze sculpture with brown patina representing a young fisherman sitting on rocks, one leg on one knee, holding in his hand most certainly a hook and between his legs a wooden pole. Very beautiful patina giving presence and relief to this sculpture. We know little about Ascoli or Ascoly. The reference book by Pierre Kjellberg "The bronzes of the 19th century", gives us some details: "This student of Chapu is mentioned at the Salon from 1890 to 1909 with plaster statuettes such as: Little Ardennes Fisherman...." Our proof was surely cast in bronze from this plaster exhibited at the Salon. Period around 1900. Delivery 80 euros in France, 150 euros in the EU and 300 euros rest of the world.
