Large Burmese Buddha (187cm)
Burma (Myanmar), Mandalay period, 19th century, standing Buddha, carved in solid wood on its lotus base. The posture is natural, his serene face hinting at a slight smile. The eyes are made of glass, adding a very present and realistic dimension to the work. His robe shows some wear and tear (stable), which is considered normal. There is a period restoration on the lotus (see photo). The hands are removable and are not currently attached for ease of transport. Although it stands upright, this antique Buddha statue should be fixed to a wall or pedestal. Provenance: Estate of the dealer and collector Claude de Marteau. Sold with a certificate of provenance.
