CLAIRE JEANNE ROBERTE COLINET Brussels (1880 1950) Sculpture, Rope Dancer Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet (1885-1950) was a Belgian-born French sculptor who worked in the early and mid-20th century. The subject of her most famous works was primarily Arabian dancers. Most of her sculptural output can be classified as Art Deco. Colinet was a frequent exhibitor at the art exhibitions of the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. Her sculptures, most of which depicted beautifully sculpted, energetic, and dramatic female forms, were exhibited posthumously at the Paris Salon for nearly 30 years. Early life Colinet was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1885.[1] Little is known of her life beyond the artwork she created during a successful career spanning over 40 years. As a woman, she was a minority in her chosen field of sculpture at the time she worked and lived. Career Bronze cast of Colinet's painting The Dream of Narcissus At an unspecified date—probably around 1910—Colinet emigrated to Paris, France, where she studied sculpture under the watchful eye of Jef Lambeaux and first exhibited her work at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1913, becoming a permanent member of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1929. organization. Between 1937 and 1940, she exhibited her work at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and was a member of the Union des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs.[2] Colinet's works were primarily in the Art Deco style,[3] and her models included odalisques, exotic dancers, jugglers, and cabaret performers. A number of her works as dancers were influenced by the Renaissance of the Orientalist movement, popular in Europe between about 1860 and 1880. Her preferred casting material was bronze; however, many of her most notable sculptures are made of chryselephantine, a combination of bronze and ivory.[3] Origin: France Material: Patinated and polished bronze Condition: very good, Signature: placed on the base Dimensions: 63cm Prices vary from several thousand euros to several dozen!!!
