Oval medallion in polychrome painted enamel, slightly domed, illustrating the Virgin and Child on a midnight blue background framed by a white border.
Mary's gentle face is leaning over the Child Jesus whom she carries on her knees. He holds in his right hand, his little finger outstretched, a rose with large petals.
The almond-shaped eyes, the small mouths with thin, heart-shaped lips, offer us a carefully rendered expression with delicate features.
The colors are bright and enhanced with gold. The slightly pink complexions are smooth and shiny with a porcelain appearance.
The heads are crowned with fine, radiant golden halos.
The wide oval border is decorated with ''Rocaille'' motifs with scrollwork, raised plants obtained by a thick layer of white and blue enamel enhanced with gold.
The treatment of the plaque is neat both in the design and in the color, and gives this pretty Virgin and Child a composition full of charm and softness.
We are in the presence of a very nice testimony to the production of Limoges enamelers during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Dark counter enamel with a purplish blue reflection, bearing the inscription Nouailher Jeune in Limoges for Pierre II Nouailher (1657 - 1717)
