Artist: Kasumasa Ogawa (1860-1929)
Ogawa Kasumasa's career as a photographer began in Japan in 1877. A samurai, he was also a printer and publisher, a pioneer of photography and photomechanical printing. In 1896, he published a set of collotypes of the most beautiful flowers of his country under the title Some Japanese Flowers, of which an original copy exists in the collections of the Paul Getty Museum.
Rarer are his albumen prints, as presented here.
