Ubaldo Oppi, Portrait ‘woman's Face’ 1928
Artist: Ubaldo Oppi
Ubaldo Oppi was one of the initiators of the Novecento Group, founded in 1922 in Milan. They were artists from different artistic currents but with a common sense; the return to order. In addition, Oppi is considered one of the leading exponents of Magic Realism, a current that included typically classical elements or human figures set in settings suspended in time.
The work in question is a drawing made with sanguine, a technique widely used for making sketches, on paper measuring 35.5x25.5 cm. It is a Woman's Face and the peculiarity of the work is the back that presents a study, probably of saints or two Madonnas, done in graphite with the words ‘PRUDENTIA’ and ‘TEMPERANTIA’.
The drawing is dated 1928 and signed in the bottom right-hand corner. There is also a certificate of authenticity on a photo signed by Ubaldo Oppi's son, with the stamp of ‘La Scaletta’ Gallery in Reggio Emilia.
The state of preservation is good. The portrait is sold inclusive of a non-contemporaneous frame 54x43,5x6,5 cm.
