Ceramics, Pompeo Pianezzola, “parchment: Life, Friendship Remains”, 1996

Artist: Pompeo Pianezzola
Pompeo Pianezzola was a very important figure on the Italian art scene, especially in the world of 20th century ceramics. He was able to combine the tradition of Nove ceramics with innovative artistic research, overcoming the boundaries of craftsmanship to achieve a contemporary language.
The ceramics on offer belong to the type of “books” or “scrolls” that Pianezzola has been making, particularly since the 1980s. They are not made to be read in the traditional sense, but to be contemplated as objects that preserve stories.
It is made by creating a cylindrical part that imitates parchment or rolled paper, and a stretched part that recalls a fragment of text. The surface of the latter is strongly textured, almost rough. The edges, on the other hand, are jagged, as if the page were torn. In the centre of the stretched page, there is a short text with the words: “life, friendship remains”. Unfortunately, the first word is not legible.

It is followed by Pompeo Pianezzola's signature and the date on which the work was created: Christmas '96.
The total measurements are 16x37x5.5 cm. The state of preservation is very good.
