"Gala Barbisan, ‘surrealist Drawing’, Italy, 1967"
Gala Barbisan, birth name Galina Nicolaeva Solovieva, was born in Russia in 1904 and moved to Italy in 1935. Her artistic activity began in the 1960s and she mainly produced black and white surrealist style drawings using Indian ink. His works are mainly characterised by fantastic motifs, birds and faces.
The drawing in question is done in black Indian ink, with an emphasis on detail and texture. The shapes are not immediately recognisable, but recall the Surrealist style that the artist followed during his painting period. The drawing seems to evoke an inner world, an imaginary ecosystem or an almost microscopic/macroscopic view of the elements.
The drawing measures 46x31 cm and is in good condition.
The author's signature ‘Gala Barbisan, 1967, Cortina’ is at the bottom right of the sheet.
