Artist: Fred W. Carlyon (1865-1956)
Fred W. Carlyon settled in Alaska, in the town of Wrangell, between 1898 and 1906. He ran a jewellery and watch shop there and was an amateur photographer, developing a particular interest in the native Tlingit cultures.
Our fine citrate print immortalises a group of four Tlingit women in ceremonial dress. One of them is wearing a Chilkat blanket around her shoulders and a remarkable wooden headdress.
