Louis XIII Style Mid-century Desk With Baluster Legs And Spacer, Can Be Used As A Console Table
Beautiful middle desk in waxed wood with a very beautiful dark patina. It rests on four turned baluster legs each ending in a ball. They are connected to each other by an H-shaped spacer also worked in baluster and decorated in its center with a large spinning top. Our desk opens on the front with a large transverse drawer occupying the entire surface of the top. It is in reality in "trompe l'oeil" since the two grips which allow it to open are hollowed out and hidden under the lower edge of it (see photo). The top is molded all around and has some traces of wear as well as a transverse scratch due to its age and use (see last photo) without any seriousness and influence on the visual. This piece of furniture can also be used as a console. Beautiful manufacture from the end of the 19th century.
