Ormoulu chiseled bronze.
These sconces are in the spirit of the creations of the great makers of the second half of the 18th century and often boldly designed for Queen Marie Martyre.
We will think of QC Pitoin or LG Feloix for example. These represent a wide ribbon tied to a nail carrying a crown of vine branches. Also tied on the ribbon are the three arms of light, and decorated with foliage surrounding them.
A mascaron of a faun is held under the knot. The horned arms of light are fluted and finished with large basins with pearls and a garland of flowers on one side and a pine cone on the other. The lights of this model had the particularity of having the socket very little visible, the arm ending in a basin. We are in a quality very close to the lights of the 18th century.
The ribbons for example are all in width as in the round bosse Technically, the screws are made of iron and visible as on the bronze mounts before the 19th century, details that are rarely found on 19th century art objects.
Condition:
Very good, beautiful gilding. A repair at the back on a buckle, invisible but slightly forward that we only see by knowing it. This discretion is confirmed on the detailed photo with the faun's head (left buckle). Invisible drilling of old electrification.
The hole on the ribbon at the top right is used to ensure a good fixing, filled by the screw it becomes invisible
