Blackened Pearwood Sideboard, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century

Elegant Napoleon III sideboard in blackened pear wood, topped with Carrara marble and inlaid with chiseled brass with scrolls, foliage, flowers and ribbons. It opens with a framed door, decorated with a beautiful composition of chiseled brass forming ribbons, garlands of flowers and acanthus leaves surrounding a torch. This is surrounded by inlaid brass threads and scalloped bronze rods forming Greek angles at the four corners and highlighting shimmering rosettes. This door has an ornate key accompanying the original lock in working order. On each side of this piece of furniture, fluted uprights decorated with asparagus at the top and bottom, are provided with a bronze capital in the Ionic style at the top. In the lower part, bronze gadrooned rods surround the recessed piece of furniture. The whole rests on four spinning top feet with collar. The upper part of this support furniture is decorated with a floral frieze surrounded by inlaid brass threads. Above, a white Carrara marble veined with gray is embedded and surrounded by large shaped bronze rods. The interior composed of mahogany veneer has two adjustable shelves on racks. ********** Period: Mid-19th century Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop. French varnish finish.
