A Sèvres-style Hard-paste Porcelain Covered Cup And Stand, Napoleon III Period

Covered cup and saucer in hard-paste porcelain in the Sèvres style, the lid with a gilt foliate rosebud finial, with a rich decoration of a polylobed reserve painted with an intimate genre scene in the manner of Flemish and Dutch painters, surrounded by gold friezes, roi blue and Tyrian pink grounds with lattice patterns enhanced with raised white enamel pearl drops and miniature medallions on the saucer.

In the 19th century, under the Second Empire and throughout the second half of the century, Parisian manufactories and workshops inspired by Sèvres revived the exceptional shaped pieces of the 18th century.
