Miniature Altarpiece – Christ In Outrages - 18th Century
Small altarpieces were in principle made for private devotion. More rarely, it was a model presented to a patron as a proposal for the creation of a monumental work.
Our architectural corpus, in Renaissance style, is in carved wood painted cream and marbled blue.
It is decorated with four columns supporting a pediment, covering three niches. In its center, a wooden representation of Christ in outrage.
He is accompanied on his right by Saint Joseph and the Child and his counterpart on the left represents a saint wearing the Franciscan bure. The attributes that constitute the book and the cross carried by our Holy Man do not make it possible to determine the Saint represented.
Good condition.
Dimensions of 64 cm high by 64 wide and 26 cm deep.
