Late 17th Century Writing Case In Fruitwood Marquetry. Alsace Or Rhine Valley.
Very beautiful writing desk in marquetry of fruit and native woods, Walnut, Plum, Sycamore and green stained wood. , and executed on a fir core. The magnificent marquetry of the top is composed of interlacing and four fleurons in the corners, the sides are decorated with birds resting on a branch and the back of a deer on an entablature. This writing desk has a pretty brass keyhole and its original lock operated by a Bénarde key ending in a ball. The top reveals a small tray and four lockers in black-stained fir. Beautiful tin-plated iron hinges. A few wormholes and small usual restorations for this beautiful box sold in its own juice. Work from the end of the 17th century, Alsace or Rhine valley.
