Barbedienne Bronze Plaque

An Art Nouveau gilt bronze celebration plaque by Barbedienne. The plaque is signed at the lower edge, “F.Barbedienne” also “Dubois” and “Chapu”. Both the latter French 19th cent. sculptors. Diameter is 25.5 cms. The design is a representation of the French national heroine Marianne, a symbol of the French republic. It was designed by Dubois/Chapu as a medal for the Union of gymnastic societies of France. Registration in French attached to the back. Condition good overall, some spots to the patination here and there.
