19th century frame gilded with gold leaf 44.5 x 33 cm. We find on the back a handwritten note:
painting represents Madame de Maintenon, it was painted by my great-grandfather the "Comte de Saint Aignan" and offered by him...
This note remains to be deciphered, it is affixed to an ED Picard label Rue du bac n°16 Faubourg Saint Germain. Probably during its re-framing in the 19th century.
