Superb portrait late seventeenth, the first love of King Louis XIV: Marie MANCINI.

She is the niece of Cardinal Mazarin.
She was born in Rome on 28 August 1639 and died on 8 May 1715 in Pisa, the same year as her thwarted love Louis XIV.
In 1658 after the siege of Dunkirk, the king fell seriously ill.
Thinking that the end is near, Mary mourns the king, which attracts the attention of the court and the king.
Louis XIV falls in love with this pretty girl who has spirit and even thinks of marrying her. 
But Queen Anne of Austria, mother of the king does not want this misalliance and marries her son to the Infanta of Spain: Maria Theresa of Austria. Cardinal Mazarin was also opposed to this marriage.
Marie Mancini bid farewell to the court and the king on 22 June 1659.
She is exiled to Brouage. 
She married in 1661 with Prince Lorenzo COLONNA of whom she had children.

This large painting is of Louis XIV period, it was formerly relined. 
A slight repaint is barely visible in the right corner of the upper part.
The carved,  gilded wooden frame is posterior.
