Ace of Emperor Elagabal minted in 218-219 AD in Antioch in Syria OBVERSE: Laureate head on the right (O*). Obverse legend: AUT KM AU ANTWNINOS. REVERSE: Closed laurel wreath; under the letters star with eight spokes. Reverse legend: DE. 6g 21mm Ex collection Sand ELAGABAL (05/16/218-03/12/222) Proclaimed emperor on May 16, 218, Elagabal, sole august until the end of June or beginning of July, left Syria to join Rome. Elagabal stops at Nicomedia. He spent the whole winter there and fell ill. It is therefore in this city that he takes up his second consulate. Elagabalus did not arrive in Rome until July or September 219, bringing the black stone of his cult to install it in his capital.
