Superb and rare Tessen (folding iron fighting fan) from the Meiji period having belonged to a very important member of the DNBK “Dai Nippon Butoku Kai” (大日本武徳会), Association for the Martial Arts of Greater Japan ( in Kyoto). This is a distinction awarded to a Master and which represents excellence and crowns a long career.

This award also embodies the humility of the person who received it. Tessen-jutsu is a martial art using the Tessen
(combat fan), which the high Japanese nobility developed to be able to defend themselves at the Shogun's court where the carrying of bladed weapons was prohibited.

CHARACTERISTICS:

Iron fan, lacquered black, with 2 paper faces, one of the faces is gold and displays 2 Kanji, whose meaning corresponds to "Butoku" or "Principle of Budo", relating to Bushido and other side is silver, with the official seal of the DNBK

Period: Taisho, very beginning of the Showa Era (end of 19th century).
Condition: There are scratches and dirt, normal for an old item.
