"Tibet, First Half Of The 20th Century, Polychrome Boiled Cardboard Mask Depicting Mahakala."
Tibet, first half of the 20th century, superb and atypical polychrome boiled cardboard mask depicting Mahakala, protective deity in Buddhism but also one of the names of Shiva in Hinduism. His grimacing face displays an angry attitude to ward off evil. He wears a crown decorated with five citipati heads and his third eye, the eye of knowledge, adorns his forehead. The colors are superb and harmoniously arranged. A fragment of a wax seal on the reverse of the coin attests that this mask left Tibetan soil with the agreement of the competent authorities.Height 17.3 cm. Width 14 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a brand known to everyone. Good state of conservation in relation to its age except for wear on the cover due to friction and various handling. Presence of cracks due to age. All without affecting the beautiful aesthetics.
