"Large Stucco Buddha Head, Ayutthaya Kingdom"
Life-size stucco Buddha head, Siam, Ayutthaya Kingdom, 17th century. Numerous successive layers of gilding can be seen on the face as well as peeling. On the remains of the ushnisha, in the curls and still a little on the nose, traces of red pigment indicate votive use over a long period. The eyes, made of mother-of-pearl, are intact.
