Born in Osik (Czechoslovakia) in 1882, he studied sculpture in his native country before going to the USA at the age of 18 where he spent most of his career. A large number of his sculptures can be found in public places and American museums. He was a member of the National Sculpture Society and the National Academy of Design. He died in 1954 in New York.
