DESCRIPTION: This ceremonial box is truly exceptional. This is a unique model, made for the governor of the Bank of France Jean Charles Joaquim Davillier (1756-1846). It was ordered and manufactured the year of his death in 1846. It was an order placed with the famous table maker Alphonse Giroux father. The ceremonial chest contains the Baron's crown and the initials of Baron Davillier (JD). The crown is enriched with the attributes of the peers of France. The dimensions of this chest in tortoiseshell and brass marquetry make it a unique object: Nearly 70 cm long by 50 cm wide and a height of 35 cm. The last photo, next to a liquor cellar, will better show you the size of this object. The bronzes gilded with fine gold are in keeping with this incredible chest: at the corners, figures descending to form the feet of the chest, numerous ingot molds, rising angles on the upper part. Rich marquetry on all sides with motifs of foliage, scrolls and interlacing, with phinches and other small characters such as fauns and putti. Signed on the lock "Alphonse Giroux", and stamped "1846" on the interior edge. This ceremonial chest was sold at auction in June 1975 at Ader in Paris and returns to us today for the greatest pleasure of collectors or enlightened enthusiasts. PERIOD: Napoleon III made in 1846 AVAILABILITY: immediate PRICE: €12,000
