Chest Of Drawers Stamped Tairraz – 18th Century flag

Object description :

"Chest Of Drawers Stamped Tairraz – 18th Century"
Chest of drawers ''Tombeau'' Louis XV strongly curved facade and double domed sides, inlaid with violet wood and rosewood.
It is stamped several times under the marble and a rear pillar by the cabinetmaker Jean-Michel Tairraz, received Master in 1756, and established rue des Marronniers in Lyon.
The cabinetmaking of Tairraz, like that of his colleagues from Lyon, is characterized in particular by the frequent inversion of veneer woods, the reserves being clad in front of a darker wood than the frames, and vice versa on the sides as is the case on the dresser that we present here. The reserves are rectangular shapes slightly curved laterally and enhanced with a net of light wood.
This dresser opens to four drawers in three rows (two drawers in the upper row).
The top in thick marble of color ''pink grey'' is molded with a beak of corbin.
One will notice the beautiful ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes on the uprights, the ass of lamp and drawers.
Our chest of drawers is virtually identical to a chest of drawers stamped with Tairraz, listed on p.66 of the book ''L'ébénisterie provinciale en France au XVIII° siècle'' – B. Deloche – J.Y Mornand – A.N Couleru, published by Faton.
