Ancient Diorama Of Polychrome Terracotta Statuettes "massacre Of The Innocents". Naples, XIXc. flag

Object description :

"Ancient Diorama Of Polychrome Terracotta Statuettes "massacre Of The Innocents". Naples, XIXc."
Interesting and rare group of polychrome terracotta sculptures that form the scene of the massacre of the innocents, where a trivial tribe of African or Mesoamerican origins were placed as executioners.

This somewhat grotesque representation of the massacre of the innocents could have been part of a vast nativity scene or diorama of Neapolitan origin, given that the art of terracotta molders to produce small nativity scene figurines was highly developed between the 18th and 19th centuries.

The sculptures appear to be ancient, probably from the end of the 19th century and then applied to these more recent imitation plywood bases. The objects are of excellent quality both in modeling and in terms of pictorial decoration.

The conditions are more than good, but being very delicate, they have small chips and some small breakages of the minute elements. Knives and weapons are made of other simpler materials and where missing they are present but need to be reglued.

It is a very particular object, for collectors and enthusiasts. If you are interested and would like more information about it, I am available. (tel. 0039/3208015489 Marco).

The price refers to the whole group and they are not sold separately.
