A pupil of Luc Olivier Merson and then Léon Bonnat, Eugène Cadel already had a solid artistic background when he exhibited for the first time at the Salon de Blois in 1888. He went on to exhibit in Paris from 1889 until 1914.
Like Léandre and Willette, he contributed to the satirical newspaper Le Rire.
