This Oil is Signed Lower Right by the Listed and Sided Artist, Arsène Sari (1895 - 1995) Arsène Sari is the son of Moïse Sari and Marie Magdeleine Calvi. He is the grandson of Léon Sari, a theater man, linked to the Bonaparte Family. After the First World War, which earned him four wounds and the decorations of the Legion of Honor and the Military Medal, Arsène Sari settled in the Montparnasse district of Paris, where he lived for more than thirty years while working at the Paris Métro. At the same time, he pursued a career as a painter and met most of the great artists of the early 20th century. He became friends with Antoine Bourdelle and received advice from Auguste Renoir. In October 1928, he co-founded the Salon des Vrais Indépendants where he exhibited until the Second World War. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Hiver from 1937 to 1947. He sometimes returned extensively to the South, particularly in the years of post-war in Marseille, and resided with his wife in Roquevaire in a former factory in the city between 1964 and 1978. There he became the dean of the Péano painters, a community of artists established in the Arcenaulx district of Marseille, including among others Pierre Ambrogiani, Antoine Ferrari, Antoine Gianelli, Jo Berto, René Sayssaud, Auguste Chabaud and Antoine Serra. Arsène Sari then lived near Sens (Yonne), then for more than ten years in Rigny le Ferron (Aube) where he had a workshop.
