"Small Bronze By E. Melingue Representative The Poet Malfilatre. "
Pretty little bronze subject by the painter, sculptor and actor Etienne Melingue 1807/1875. Reading his biography on the internet is worth the detour, a romantic life worthy of a Dumas novel! The bronze represents another Caen resident, the poet Malfilatre, figure of the cursed poet who died in his youth in 1767. The latter had a certain success in the 18th century and his disappearance inspired several paintings noted at the time. The bronze subject is of good quality, with a nuanced green patina. In perfect condition it is fixed on a molded green marble base. Total height: 14cm. Vintage print dated 1852.
