Ivory Plate "the Loves Of Poseidon" Late 18th Century
Rectangular ivory plaque finely carved with a mythological scene. On the right, we witness the kidnapping of the nymph Amymoné who had been responsible for discovering a source to help the population of Argolis but a satyr tried to abuse her. Poseidon came to his aid and threw his trident. Poseidon fell in love with the nymph and married Amymone. The hymen and Love being represented by this character on the left armed with a bow, a quiver. Work from the end of the 18th century.
