Namji Doll From Cameroon
Very pretty NAMJI doll from Northern Cameroon, patinated wood with traces of shine caused by repeated handling, height 18.5cm plus wooden base, total height 22cm. This is a character with highly stylized lines, arms and legs spread apart. The powerful neck supporting a tiny head topped with a fine crest pierced with holes. The facial features consist of two holes for the eyes and a slit for the mouth. The body has geometric scarifications. Ornaments in yellow, white, blue and red beads cover the torso, neck, ankles and left arm. A jacket button or other attached to the neck NAMJI dolls were worn by sterile Namji women, who hung them around the neck so that they touched the stomach and acted magically.
