Biography: Abeloos Victor, a distinguished Belgian painter, was born on December 25, 1881, in St-Gilles. His artistic journey began as an apprentice at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he studied under the guidance of notable mentors Isidore Verheyden and Alfred Cluysenaar. Abeloos showcased a versatile talent, demonstrating his proficiency in various genres such as female nudes, still lifes, landscapes, portraits, animals, seascapes, mythological scenes, and socially engaged subjects. Rejecting the artistic conventions of his time, Abeloos made a significant impact on the art world with his unique approach. His contributions to the art scene were recognized through solo exhibitions at the Galerie Royale in 1922 and the Galerie Le Salonnet in 1925, both located in Brussels. These exhibitions served as platforms for showcasing his diverse body of work. Abeloos’ artistic legacy extends to the inclusion of his works in prominent Belgian museums, such as the Musée Charlier and the Musée d’Ixelles in Brussels. His paintings captured the essence of his time and reflected his distinctive perspective on art. In collaboration with fellow painter Emile Vauthier, Victor Abeloos established a studio at 16 Godecharlestraat in Ixelles around 1930. Following his marriage in 1952, he permanently relocated to the studio, where he continued to create and innovate until his passing. Noteworthy exhibitions in Abeloos’ career include his participation in the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts in 1901 and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1903 and 1904. His exhibited works, such as “The King of the Flemish Meadow,” “Landscape with Animals,” “Le réveil de Diane,” and “La grève,” showcased his artistic prowess and earned him recognition beyond national borders. Victor Abeloos, sometimes erroneously considered English, left an indelible mark on the art world. He breathed his last on August 18, 1965, in Ixelles, leaving behind a rich and diverse body of work that continues to captivate art enthusiasts worldwide.
