Punanham Chest, Ifugao, Luzon Island, Philippines
This impressive Punanham chest, formerly used for ritual ceremonies surrounding the rice harvest, is decorated at its extremities with two elongated stylized pig heads used as handles. The lid is carved with lines radiating from a central cavity.
The object is covered with a beautiful dry patina. A hole has been dug by an animal on one side. Erosion under the chest and on one side.
