"Large Ivory Triptych, Francisco Pallas (1859-1926), Spain, 19th / Embriachi Certosina "
Important triptych in ivory, carved in bas-relief and polychrome decorated with religious scenes including the Adoration of the Magi and the Annunciation, in a rich Gothic architectural decoration. This splendid work was produced in Valencia, Spain in the workshop of Francisco Pallas y Puig (1859-1926) at the end of the 19th century. Sculpted with infinite delicacy, each face is different.
Its flamboyant neo-Gothic style is inspired by the altarpieces of Balthazar Embriachi from the Florentine school of the 15th century.
The support of the triptych (base, pediment and panels) is in walnut enriched with marquetry with geometric decoration of ivory, bone and wood following the technique known as "alla Certosina" typical of the Italian Renaissance.
Several of these impressive triptychs made by Francisco Pallas y Puig are today kept in several museums in Europe and the United States.
