Corsair's Chest Decorated With Sirens Nuremberg High Period 17th Century

17th Century Nuremberg Iron Marine Chest (Armada Chest)

17th century Nuremberg iron marine chest with a structure entirely bound in forged iron straps, original studding, and remnants of original floral polychromy.

The lock mechanism features 7 bolts locking simultaneously under a pierced, engraved lock plate (paravant) decorated with affronted sirens.

The functional keyhole is cleverly concealed under a tilting metal plate on top of the chest, while the ornamental acanthus leaf keyhole on the front acts as a decoy.

Origin: Nuremberg, 17th century.

Condition Report:
Sold with its original hand-forged key.
Mechanism in working order (would benefit from light lubrication).
Natural surface oxidation and age-appropriate wear to the painted decoration.
Interior compartment present, without key.
